Jamie Oliver 8-1/2-Inch Bread Knife, Japanese MoV Stainless Steel Blade
Ask any chef who’s ever tried to slice freshly baked bread with anything other than a serrated bread knife and you’ll learn it’s a staple for the kitchen. Food that requires a delicate touch or warrants thin slices – egg rolls, smoked salmon, kiwi fruit or angel food cakes – turns out best when using this essential tool. Each Grand Prix II knife is precision forged of a single blank of high carbon stainless steel, skillfully honed by hand twice. The perfectly balance tool features molded handles that are slip resistant and completely hygienic. An update to the original line, the Wusthof Grand Prix II knives offer more ergonomically designed handles combined with the high quality and contemporary good looks chef’s desire.
A moderately priced companion to Wüsthof’s renowned Classic forged knives, this Gourmet Series 10-inch slicing knife has the same full-tang, three-rivet, virtually indestructible poly handle as Classic knives. Instead of being forged, however, Gourmet Series blades are cut from steel sheets by precision lasers. That means they have no bolsters. But it also means they are perfectly shaped and fit handles seamlessly. And the blades’ high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of Wüsthof’s premium knives, only thinner. This knife has a blade with large serrations (or scallops) for slicing through crusty bread, roasts, hams, and even soft-skinned vegetables and fruits like tomatoes. The knife is dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended to protect its edge. –Fred Brack
