Bread Knives
Anyone who has ever tried to cut a slice of fresh bread knows there can be problems. Fresh bread is difficult to cut because while stile fresh the texture of the bread inside the crust is so soft and delicate.
The only solution I have ever found to this fresh bread problem is to use a very good bread knife. A top quality bread knife will slice through the fresh bread as if it were butter but the average ‘thrown in a drawer’ family bread knife is unlikely to do anything other than press the bread into an unappealing messy squashed ball. A new cheap bread knife might just do the trick but it will probably only work as long as the sharp edge stays on the knife which may not be for very long.
Top quality bread knives can be very expensive to purchase but before you decide you cannot afford them think about this. A top quality branded bread knife will most likely last you a lifetime. You will be able to pass this knife on to your kids when you no longer need it. Spread the cost over all those years and it is a small price to pay for the ability to cut bread easily and precisely whether it is fresh out of the over or many hours old.
We all know the pleasure of being able to eat fresh cut bread so it must be worthwhile spending a few extra dollars to be able to cut your bread straight out of the oven or your bread making machine especially when you know that knife will last a lifetime.
